Who We Are

Security Design Solutions is a security consulting firm based in Southeast Louisiana.  The firm was started by our chief designer, Michael Khairallah.  Michael began his technology career in the U.S. Navy as an electronic countermeasures specialist and radarman.  He earned a degree in business from LSU and later worked for AT&T as a data communications specialist.  After 10 years with AT&T he entered the security industry just as technology was emerging as a significant security tool.

Michael worked for the Cardkey Systems division of Fairchild Industries for 2 years before leaving the company to become one of their dealers.  He started Card Access Systems based in New Orleans and served customers throughout the Gulf South.  After 17 years of growth and expansion, taking on new lines and new technologies Michael sold the company and advanced his career to an independent consultant.

Michael is the author of the industry publication the “Physical Security Systems Handbook”. This book is a guide to developing security plans, selecting security technology and the implementation and management of security projects. This book is available from the ASIS bookstore and a wide range of book outlets.

Our Team

Michael has assembled a team of specialist through the IAPSC that can handle any physical security requirement. Associate consultants are added to projects as needed. This highly specialized approach ensures that the consulting fees only include the skills that are essential to a project.

What Do We Do

Expert Witness

An SDS security consultant can provide a wide range of support for attorneys who are trying to define “Reasonable Care” in litigation matters.  An SDS security consultant can examine evidence and review depositions to identify clues for arriving at the truth in a case.  SDS has the ability to perform detailed, frame by frame examinations of video evidence to support conclusions.

SDS litigation support includes:

  • Forensic examination of facilities to confirm “Reasonable Care”
  • Predictable criminal intent
  • Probable cause
  • Interpretation of CCTV and other evidentiary data
  • Review and analysis of security instructions, protocols and actions

A threat assessment by SDS identifies man-made actions that may harm your business and the probability of those actions occurring. An SDS consultant will examine the threats to your business, compare your concerns to that of similar companies and help you identify the likelihood of loss from unwanted human actions.

Vulnerability Studies
A vulnerability study from SDS shows you where threats may impact your business and ways to mitigate or prevent those threats.

System and Bid Specifications
SDS will create PERFORMANCE BASED specifications based on the results of a vulnerability study that provides precise security solutions for competitive bids.

Bid Management
SDS can identify potential bidders, solicit bids and manage the bid process than evaluate offers to identify the most responsive bidder (not just the lowest price).act your business and ways to mitigate or prevent those threats.

Project Management
SDS can ensure that the bid accepted for your security solution is implemented in a professional manner and meets the design specifications described in your specifications.

Post Installation Support
SDS will test the performance of your new system and help your staff with system set up, planning and employee acceptance.

Consulting Fees

An exact price usually cannot be determined because the details of the project are yet to unfold so SDS prepares a Not-to-Exceed fee estimate.  This fee estimate is not a “Firm Fixed Price” but our best estimate of the professional hours needed to accomplish a given scope of work.  Charges are recorded and billed on a monthly basis so the client only pays the actual cost required to do the work.

Billing includes related expenses which are generally negligible unless travel is required.  When applied, travel and expenses are based on GSA schedule or actual costs, whichever is lower.

Progress Reports

The client will also receive a monthly project progress report stating the percent complete of all tasks identified for the project and a reconciliation of the original fee estimate compared to the cost to date.
